Project title: Geophysical Interpretation with Target-Oriented Joint Inversion Modules (Gitaro.JIM)
Gitaro.JIM is a joint research project within the ERA-Net Cofund MarTERA program. The project aims to integrate multi-disciplinary geophysical data sets in a modular joint inversion approach. The GFZ contributes to the project with laboratory investigations on electrical and seismic sediment properties and their dependence on methane hydrate content. The results will be used by the project partners for the joint inversion of CSEM and seismic field data from the paleo-Danube delta in the Black Sea.

Your responsibilities:

  • characterization of drill core samples from the Black Sea
  • preparation of artificial samples based on the composition of natural material from drill core samples
  • measurements of sonic wave velocity and electrical resistivity on ice- and hydrate-bearing sediment samples
  • experiments with the gas hydrate resonant column apparatus
  • enhancement of exciting methodologies for the preparation of hydrate-bearing samples
  • interpretation of the resulting data
  • derivation of correlation functions between measured properties and hydrate content
  • preparation of data reports and delivery to project partners
  • timely preparation of deliverables and progress reports

Your qualifications:

  • Master's degree and PhD in Geophysics or in a related field
  • expertise in petrophysics and/or reservoir characterization
  • experiences in laboratory methodologies for the determination of elastic/inelastic and electric rock properties
  • experiences in the setup and use of measurement instrumentation
  • expertise in sedimentology and mineralogy
  • ability to work within a team
  • attention to detail and organizational skills
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Starting date: 1st January 2020
Fixed term: 18 month
Salary: This position has been assessed as being salary group 13 according to “TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost)”. The salary group will be determined by the conditions of the collective wage agreement and the appropriate personal qualifications.
Working hours: Full-time (currently 39 h/week); The position is, in principle, suitable for part-time employment.
Location: Potsdam
